Synopsis

It is with great pleasure that we present the proceedings of the REDETE 2025 conference, “Researching Economic Development and Entrepreneurship in Transition Economies,” held in Banja Luka in 2025. For over a decade, the REDETE platform has served as a critical meeting point for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners seeking to understand the unique and often complex dynamics of economies navigating systemic transformation. This volume reflects the continued relevance and evolution of that mission. The transition paradigm has shifted. While earlier debates focused on privatization, stabilization, and institutional catch-up, the contributions in this 2025 edition confront a new generation of challenges and opportunities. From the digital transformation of public money and the integration of artificial intelligence in firm-level strategies, to the imperatives of sustainable institutions and the nuanced realities of migration policy, the papers gathered here demonstrate that transition economies are not merely passive recipients of global trends but active laboratories for innovative solutions.
Several key themes emerge from this year’s proceedings. First, digitalization and financial inclusion take center stage, with studies exploring everything from taxpayers’ perceptions of digital administration in Slovenia to the role of microcredit in empowering excluded populations in the Western Balkans, alongside a critical analysis of Central Bank Digital Currencies. Second, sustainability—in its economic, social, and environmental dimensions—permeates the volume. Authors examine sustainability reporting in Serbia, renewable energy applications in the oil industry of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and a new paradigm of “Susthonomics” for tourism development. Third, the human dimension of transition is powerfully represented through research on labor market duality in Central and Southeastern Europe, the attitudes of the academic community toward national competitiveness, and the behavioral factors shaping household price sensitivity.
