Synopsis

The textbook Biology of Fungi was created out of the need for modern and accessible literature for students of undergraduate studies in biology, ecology, and environmental protection at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, University of Banja Luka. It provides a detailed overview of the position of fungi in the living world and their importance in ecosystems, offering insight into their diversity. Special attention is given to the morphology of fungi, with descriptions of structures and characteristic features of different groups, as well as their modes of reproduction.

The textbook also presents the roles of fungi in ecosystems, their interactions with plants and animals, and their economic and medical significance.The textbook additionally provides a modern overview of the taxonomy of fungi and fungus-like organisms, based on the latest research and international classification standards. Special attention is given to the most common edible and poisonous fungi in our region, as the practical application of this knowledge significantly contributes to safety and student interest.

Author Biography

Svjetlana Lolić, University of Banja Luka, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics

Svjetlana Lolić was born in 1980 in Banja Luka. She is a full professor at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, where she teaches Microbiology, Microbial Ecology, Phycology, and the Biology of Fungi and Lichens. She is the Head of the Department of Microbiology and Cell Biology. She has published 96 scientific papers and 11 books as an author or co-author and has participated in 45 research projects
