Synopsis

Chemistry - theory and experiments is a basic textbook in the field of chemistry intended for students of the Biology Study Program at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics of the University of Banja Luka. Also, the textbook can be used by students of similarly organized chemistry subjects on other study programs, where chemistry is studied as a general subject. In the first part of the textbook, the material is focused on general chemistry, where the importance of chemistry as a science for modern society is emphasized, along with information on chemical disciplines and measurements. In the following, the development of the theory of atoms and molecules is presented along with the basic principles of the nomenclature of inorganic compounds. The first part of the book also includes important information about chemical bonding, energetics, and rates of chemical reactions. Separate chapters discuss solutions and their quantification, as well as selected classes of inorganic compounds and electrochemical processes. In the second part of the textbook, basic structural concepts and knowledge from the field of organic chemistry are presented, and then the most important organic compounds are presented by class. For each class, a short introductory part is given, which aims to show the importance of the class, both in the scientific sense and in practical life. Special attention is paid to spatial organization in organic molecules, followed by appropriate models and structures with examples of biological organic compounds. At the end of each chapter, there are selected questions, tasks and an experimental part that aim to demonstrate, demonstrate and reconfirm the discussed chemical laws and phenomena in a practical way. The book Chemistry - theory and experiments combines the traditional approach of classical textbooks in the field of chemistry with practical and experimental aspects with the intention of bringing the presented material as close as possible to students who do not study chemistry, but for whom it is extremely important in their future profession.
