Flora and vegetation of the area of ​​importance for the protection of the surroundings of Banja Luka and the middle course of the Vrbas

Synopsis

The monograph is a synthesis of decades of flora and vegetation research on the territory of the City of Banja Luka. It also represents the basis for elaborating the protection of space in terms of status under the law on nature protection. It contains seven chapters: Preface, Introduction, General part, Ecofactors, Flora, Vegetation, Literature and Authors of photographs. The main chapters (Flora and Vegetation) contain previous research, special chapters on the surroundings of the City and the middle course of the Vrbas, the statuses of protection and endangered species, and a description of habitat types (according to the EU Habitat Directive and maps of the area). The monograph contains 50 photographs, 20 maps and 183 items of literature.

The flora of the covered area lists 540 species of plants (of which 38 are mosses), based on literature, field research, the RS flora database or the herbarium of the Forestry Faculty of Banja Luka (BALU). 13 species are under threat (according to IUCN_2020 global). According to the Red List of the RS, 63 species have the status of protected species, and 34 are strictly protected; The Forest Law protects 4 species: Ilex aquifolium, Populus canescens, Salix triandra and Taxus baccata. Apostrophized are naturalized (18), invasive (5) and silvicultural species (7).

The prodromus of the vegetation of the covered area has 180 associations, 72 associations, 47 orders, and 32 classes, based on 220 phytocenological recordings (118 Starčevica, 60 Trappist forests and 42 Suturlije), and descriptions of 23 habitat types. The prodromus lists: the scientific name of the syntaxon, the Serbian name of the syntaxon, NATURA2000 habitat type, ecological indices of the habitat and the part of the area where the syntaxon is present (Starčevica, Suturlija, Trapisti, Vrbas).

Author Biography

Jugoslav Brujić, University of Banja Luka, Faculty of Forestry

Jugoslav Brujić was born in Banja Luka 1961. He graduated in July 1987, at Faculty of Forestry in Sarajevo. He worked whole career in Banja Luka, since 1993 in Faculty of Forestry. He defended his master's thesis in 2004 in Belgrade, and his doctoral thesis in 2014. In 2003 he established NGO Arbor magna, society for protection of nature heritage.
