Synopsis

In this publication, for the first time, an inventory of the flora of higher plants in Republika Srpska is presented, based on literary data published over more than 170 years of research into the flora and vegetation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska. These data have been supplemented with the results of unpublished author research conducted over the past 20 years. The flora of Republika Srpska originates from the digital database "GIS Database of Vascular Flora of Republika Srpska," which the authors have been working on since 2011. This database contains nearly 400,000 records on the findings of vascular flora taxa in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which were later georeferenced. From these, 191,280 records were isolated as belonging to the territory of Republika Srpska. The total number of registered plant species (including subspecies) is 3,692, of which 131 taxa are mentioned for the first time in Republika Srpska, while 16 are new for Bosnia and Herzegovina. The list of taxa is arranged at the level of families and higher systematic units in phylogenetic order, respecting the latest research findings: Ferns are categorized according to the Pteridophyte Phylogeny Group (PPG I, 2016); Flowering plants follow the classification of the Angiosperm Phylogeny Group (APG IV, 2016); Within families, genera and species are sorted alphabetically. For each taxon, the valid name, nomenclatural reference, and synonyms (sourced from the Euro+Med database) are provided, along with the first documented occurrence, specifying the locality, reference, and original name. The final taxonomic-nomenclatural concept, along with synonymy, follows the online Euro+Med database.
