Synopsis

The monograph “Biocompatibility of Calcium Silicates and Calcium Aluminates in Dental Medicine” presents a comprehensive overview of current knowledge on the biological and physicochemical properties of materials used for pulp capping and definitive root canal obturation. The work is the result of long-term scientific research, clinical experience, and experimental studies by the author in the field of dental biomaterials.

Particular emphasis is placed on the analysis of biocompatibility, osteoinductivity, osteoconductivity, and other important characteristics of calcium silicate- and calcium aluminate-based materials. The aim of the research was to compare already established calcium silicate materials with nanostructured calcium aluminate-based materials, which are still in the experimental stage of development. In addition, their cytotoxicity, genotoxicity, subcutaneous implantation capacity, and influence on dentin repair were evaluated.

The results indicate significant advantages of nanostructured calcium aluminate-based materials, including higher mechanical strength, resistance to acids, high temperatures, and abrasion, as well as more pronounced antibacterial properties. These materials demonstrate a favorable biological tissue response, minimal inflammation, good radiographic visibility, and the ability to stimulate dentin bridge formation, without signs of systemic toxicity.

The monograph represents a valuable contribution to domestic and regional professional literature, expanding existing knowledge on modern dental biomaterials and opening possibilities for further research and clinical application of calcium aluminate-based materials.
